Art and Design Book Spread

My graphic design class at Duke University created a book together on the topic design. Three students were art directors and determined the color palette, typography for body text, and basic margins. The rest of us were paired and had to draw inspiration from our sketch-journals, in which we had been writing/drawing reflections on design topics. My partner, Isabella Leone, and I both wrote a lot about the differences and similarities between art and design and wrote a series of statements about them both. I see design as stating information, while art poses a question. So, we represented each with the corresponding punctuation mark and wrote our thoughts in icons (which we built ourselves).

Collaborative book spread for class, with Isabella Leone. Does legibiility equal communication? Decipher our icons to compare and contrast art and design.
